This may seem like something that is not important, yet how your site looks can mean the difference between your readers staying or leaving. It can be the overall appearance, it can be little details. Your site appearance being inconsistent with your message could also be a determining factor.

http://MJSchrader.com

You want your WordPress site to look recognizable and be comfortable. If the blog has annoying colors or looks juvenile, your readers may turn around and leave. If your readers can not read the blog, such as what happens when the background and the font color are too close or are a hard to read combination, then readers will leave. The cigar theme on a healthy living blog makes your readers wonder what kind of healthy living are you really going to cover.

Are you cluttered?

If your website has too many things, people will not know where to read, where to visit or where anything is. The readers will be too easily distracted to stay and read your posts or if it is really cluttered, they may just leave the website. And you know that Pay per click ad you just put inside the post? Well, people have learned one of two things, to ignore it or ignore the writer, a non-win or lose situation. If you are not going to win, why have it?

Do you have WordPress?

There are great themes that allow you to customize almost every color on the website. This allows you to match your vision and work to make certain it is appealing to visitors. I will cover those tomorrow.

This is final in the Planning the Unexpected series. Each day is a products, person or service I recommend. Today is the final installment and this one is long, because a lot of people have questions about Hypnosis. This also features another friend thanks to Unseminar and Pat O’Bryan and that is the lovely and wise Wendi Friesen…

Hypnosis and Online Business Success

Over the past couple of years I have gotten to know Wendi Friesen, a top hypnotist. In talking to her, it is surprising how many myths circulate regarding hypnosis and hypnotists. The reality is it can actually help you with your online business success.

The Puppet Myth

Hypnosis does not make the mind into a puppet for the hypnotist. You are not going to do something against your nature. The people who jump up and crow like a rooster are people who subconsciously want to be performers.

You are not asleep or unconscious during hypnosis but your focus is completely with the words of the hypnotist or with what is hypnotizing you. An example would be if you are driving a straight road, a road that seems to go on and on, you may have suffered from road hypnosis. In this state, your mind takes over and drives on autopilot, while another part of your mind is focused on entirely different matters.

A Focus Shift

You are not unconscious, but things that normally require thought do not, because your consciousness is targeted on the hypnosis. Thus when a hypnotist, like Wendi, asks you to raise your arm if you want to succeed, you raise it, seemingly unconsciously, because you want the success and you were focused on her words and not your own actions.

Will it work for me?

If you have an excuse or reason to not succeed, hypnosis will not help you. Conversely if your mind is open and receptive this greatly speeds up the process. An excellent hypnotist, like Wendi Friesen can find words that slip into your subconscious and your mind accepts the words as self-created. True hypnosis success is based on your mind accepting the message as part of you.

Should I try hypnosis?

Wendi Friesen has hypnosis CDs over a wide range of subjects and these are very beneficial for any problem you want to change. You must be ready and wanting to change, or willing to find the reason you block changes. If you are blocking changes, you need something like her “The Wall” hypnosis. I have gone through it 5 times with different results. Every morning Wendi’s “Wake up happy” CDs wake me up, they encourage me and I feel more confident. So visit Wendi.com and see what will help you.

While I have talked a great deal about WordPress I have yet to explain that there are two different models. WordPress.com is known for being hosted online. WordPress.org is often called hosted, or self-hosted because you must host it. These are brought to you by the same people yet are very different in their benefits.

WordPress.com

The biggest advantage of WordPress.com is that WordPress.com hosts your blog. It is completely free to use with you only needing to set up the blog, because you do not need to pay for hosting. There is no installation and your blog is automatically backed up. You also get cross traffic from other blogs.

The disadvantage is that a you are limited to their themes. You are also limited to the plugins they use, which are not many. You are going to get a blog name set up as blogname.wordpress.com or similar. They do not allow advertisements or selling on their blogs. If they decide that your blog is not in line with their standards they could block or even delete your blog.

WordPress.org

If you are using WordPress.org then you have a self-hosted blog. This means you or someone uploaded the application to a server. Your web host offers you space on their servers. The program is free but it does cost $5 to $12 a month for web hosting. You are responsible for backing up your website, and updating your WordPress when newer versions become available.

Choosing your theme or adding a plugin can easily be done by a few clicks of the mouse. For specialty themes or plugins you need to load via your file manager, which does take a few more steps. Being able to add specialty plugins and themes is part of what gives self-hosted WordPress. You can also modify the source code if you know programming.

The greatest thing is that you do not have to worry about WordPress deciding your blog goes against their standards. You do not have to worry about your content being controversial. Running an advertisement or not is entirely up to you. If you want to sell something you can.

Why WordPress.org is recommended

While it is more maintenance, the advantages of the hosted WordPress are very worth it. The cost of a web host can easily be recovered by the ability to host multiple blogs on one account and the ability to advertizing to monetize each. You can also add donation boxes or other a product to sell. This means your blog could earn potentially a lot more than the monthly hosting fees.
